This model applies to recurring, variable, or usage-based billing. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under PSD2, a MIT <strong>may be exempt from SCA authentication<\/strong>, provided that:<\/p>\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The merchant has a <strong>valid contractual authorization<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An <strong>initial CIT transaction authenticated using 3DS<\/strong> has been completed.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">MITs are therefore based on a previous successful authentication combined with a <code>Customer<\/code> and a <code>cardToken<\/code>.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button is-style-fill\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-small-font-size has-custom-font-size wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.centralpay.com\/en\/documentation\/card-transaction\/3ds-2-0-authentication\/\"><code>Documentation<\/code>  3DS 2.2 (General)<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. CIT and MIT: What&#8217;s the Difference?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Customer-Initiated Transaction (CIT)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A CIT transaction is initiated by the account owner. It generally involves <strong>3DS authentication<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Roles of the Initial CIT in an MIT workflow:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>authenticate the card and the cardholder,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>confirm the creation of a <strong>Customer<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>allow the generation of a <strong>cardToken<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>serve as a reference for future MITs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Merchant-Initiated Transaction (MIT)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An MIT is initiated by the Merchant without any action on the part of the account holder, in accordance with the agreement entered into with the customer.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Use Cases:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>monthly billing with a variable amount,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>additional one-time fees,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>usage-based<\/em> model.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. Requirements for Conducting MITs<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two conditions must be met:<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2.1. Processing an Initial Authenticated CIT (3DS)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This CIT must be:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>authenticated via 3DS<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>captured<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>associated with a <strong>Customer<\/strong> and a <strong>cardToken<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2.2. Existence of a Valid Commercial Power of Attorney<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The scope of work must include:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the nature of the services,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the future amount (fixed or variable),<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>billing terms and frequency,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the customer&#8217;s explicit consent to future payments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button is-style-fill\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-small-font-size has-custom-font-size wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.centralpay.com\/en\/documentation\/card-transaction\/custom-payment-form\/\"><code>Documentation<\/code>  CustomForm Payment Form<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Amount of the Initial CIT<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is <strong>perfectly acceptable<\/strong> to make an initial CIT payment in a nominal amount (for example <strong>, \u20ac1<\/strong> or <strong>\u20ac0.01<\/strong>) in order to:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>authenticate the card,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>approve the commercial contract,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Generate a token that can be used for future MITs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The initial CIT does not have to cover the actual amount of future MITs.<\/p>\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">Note: Zero-euro transactions of the \u201cverification\/authenticated card imprint\u201d type work for certain schemes but <strong>are not universally supported by partner banks<\/strong>; hence the recommendation to use an authenticated CIT transaction.<br \/>Additionally, although a nominal CIT transaction is technically acceptable, the issuer may\u2014depending on its risk profile, the payment scheme, or the account\u2019s tenure\u2014decide to trigger a 3DS challenge during a subsequent MIT transaction.\"<\/pre>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4. Validity Period of a CIT for Generating MITs<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is <strong>no limit imposed by CentralPay<\/strong>.<br \/>The validity period depends solely on:<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4.1. From the issuing ACS (the holder&#8217;s bank)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Practices observed in the sector:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Retention period for authentication records: <strong>\u2248 13 months<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For certain issuers: <strong>up to 36 months<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After the 3DS token expires, MITs may be subject to:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>of soft declines,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>authentication requests,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8220;SCA required&#8221; rejections.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4.2. On the Use of 3DS 2.2 \u2013 3RI<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In some cases, the Merchant may renew an issuer-side authentication via <strong>3RI<\/strong> in order to extend the mandate&#8217;s validity period.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Availability of diagrams:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>CB<\/strong>: operational support,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mastercard<\/strong>: Operational Support,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Visa<\/strong>: Support is currently under development and is not reliable at this time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button is-style-fill\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-small-font-size has-custom-font-size wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.centralpay.com\/en\/documentation\/3ds-2-2-authentication\/merchant-initiated-transaction-mit-3ri\/\"><code>Documentation<\/code>  3DS 2.2 \u2013 3RI<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>5. Can an MIT require 3DS authentication?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes. An MIT may, in exceptional cases, be <strong>reclassified as a CIT<\/strong> by the issuer (ACS), particularly in the following cases: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>long history of the original CIT,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>suspected fraud,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the issuer&#8217;s RBA rules,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>amounts that are unusual or higher than expected.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Reducing the Risk of 3DS Requests<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use 3RI when supported,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>maintain a clear contractual framework,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Take the CIT again in the event of repeated failures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button is-style-fill\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-small-font-size has-custom-font-size wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.centralpay.com\/en\/documentation\/3ds-2-2-authentication\/faq-3ds-2-2\/\"><code>Pour en savoir plus<\/code>  3DS 2.2 FAQ<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>6. MIT Transactions or CentralPay&#8217;s Subscription Service: Which Should You Choose?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is <strong>not required<\/strong> to use the <code>Subscription<\/code> module to perform MITs.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>6.1. Use the subscription service if:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The amounts are <strong>fixed<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the frequency is <strong>recurring<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The concept is similar to that of a subscription.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>6.2. Use MIT transactions if:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The amounts vary (usage-based model),<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Invoices are issued on a one-time basis,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Debit transactions must be initiated by the Merchant.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button is-style-fill\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-small-font-size has-custom-font-size wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.centralpay.com\/en\/documentation\/card-transaction\/recurring-card-transaction\/\"><code>Documentation<\/code> Recurring Card Transaction<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>7. API Implementation: Perform an MIT Transaction<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>7.1. Initial CIT<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the CIT transaction:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>creation of a web <code>customer<\/code>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Generating a <code>cardTokenId<\/code>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>3DS authentication.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>7.2. MIT Transaction<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each MIT transaction must include:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><code>customerId<\/code>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><code>cardTokenId<\/code>  (or <code>cardId<\/code>),<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>specifying the MIT context in the transaction parameters,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the metadata needed to link the MIT to the original CIT.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button is-style-fill\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-small-font-size has-custom-font-size wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.centralpay.com\/en\/documentation\/card-transaction\/recurring-card-transaction\/#2-abonnement-depuis-des-transactions-successives\"><code>Documentation<\/code>  Recurring Card Transaction &gt;: Subscription Based on Successive Transactions<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>8. Best Practices for Improving the Reliability of an MIT Workflow<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>8.1. Techniques<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>initiate MITs shortly after billing,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>combine payments when appropriate,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>use 3RI to refresh authentication,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maintain a stable cardToken.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>8.2. Handling Refuses<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If the code indicates &#8220;SCA required&#8221; (<br \/>), offer the customer a new CIT (manual payment); if the code indicates &#8220;MIT required&#8221; (<br \/>), recreate an MIT mandate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>8.3. Contract Workers<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Keep proof of the order: Terms and Conditions, acceptance logs, contract, customer information page.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>9. MIT FAQ<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Is a CIT of 1 \u20ac sufficient for an MIT mandate?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes, if it is 3DS-authenticated.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How long does a CIT continue to generate MITs?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It depends on the ACS: generally <strong>13 to 36 months<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Can an MIT trigger 3DS?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes, if the ACS requires it (RBA, CIT tenure, atypical amounts).<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Should I use &#8220;Subscription&#8221; for variable amounts?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No, the <code>subscription<\/code> service is generally designed for fixed subscription models.
